Biology Scholars Program Fund

The Biology Scholars Program connects students to activities, information, opportunities, and networks by fostering a sense of belonging and providing a positive culture to succeed in STEM majors at UC Berkeley. Today, the Biology Scholars Program (BSP) matters more than ever. In the wake of the COVID-19, financial, and social unrest crises, BSP’s low-income and first-to-college students have demonstrated remarkable resilience and courage. And BSP has been there to help them overcome conditions that could pose a clear and immediate threat to their success to prepare for and enter STEM graduate programs and careers.

For 28-years, BSP has been a “home away from home” for its students, a space where they are supported, motivated, and empowered to continue their educational and career pursuits and reach their goals.

We need your help to ensure that BSP will be here for our students facing today’s unprecedented challenges and for challenges yet to come.

Here are the many ways your gift can make a difference in the lives of BSP students:

  • Instructional materials for a peer tutor to teach BSP students chemistry and biology for a semester

  • Research supplies for an undergraduate researcher for the academic year

  • Conference travel costs for an undergraduate researcher

  • Support a student’s research stipend over a semester or a peer advisor

Your investment will be paid forward many times over through BSP members’ work as future physicians, scientists, and policymakers, making the world a more just and fair place for all. Thank you for your support.

"BSP helped me in so many ways and at so many steps of the path, " Shanna Tucker, MD, says, noting that BSP's study groups and friendly environment where other students "felt like family" were particularly important to her success at Berkeley."

Shanna (BA 2010) went on to Harvard Medical School and is now completing a post-residency obesity medicine fellowship at New York University.
