Indian Student Association
Indian Student Association - Get to Know Us!

The Indian Students Association strives to help unite the South Asian community by hosting numerous events focused on South Asian holidays open to the Berkeley community. Our largest events include Raas Garba, Diwali, and Holi. In fact, we hold the largest green Holi event in the Bay Area, with over 4000 attendees every year! We often collaborate with other organizations that serve the similar purpose of South Asian representation on campus to host our events.

Furthermore, ISA aims to erase stigmas surrounding the Indian community on campus and recognize problems within our community and where we fit in to solve these prevalent issues. Therefore, we are committed to making other cultural groups to feel welcome within our community and encourage those outside the South Asian diaspora to attend our events.

With a twist from the virtual and remote semester, we hope to bring the same quality of events from previous in-person semesters but are choosing to highlight social causes. We are in the midst of  inviting prominent South Asian personalities to speak in lieu of our traditional Raas Garba event as apart of our upcoming Fall speaker series. Moreover, we are collaborating with campus performance groups to perform virtually for our Diwali celebration.

However, to achieve the goals we need to raise money for speaker honorariums and performance fees as well as sound/technical equipment we need to cope with the remote semester. All of our attendance will be free to accommodate a space where everyone in the Cal community can feel comfortable attending. We would really appreciate your help to achieve our goals! With an estimated budget of $1500, please donate to our cause so we can continue to do what we love and bring you an amazing virtual experience as well!

We have a robust and growing South-Asian community at UC Berkeley who are very passionate about their culture. Even in this remote environment, we believe that students are still yearning to connect with their fellow peers and culture. Given this, we expect a high turnout for our virtual events, as well, and we cannot wait to hit the ground running!
