As a distinguished department leading in research and instruction, Physics can lead diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) efforts. With your support, we can widen opportunities for underrepresented and women students, improve representation amongst those students, faculty, and postdocs, and expand mentoring to all students as they move through their degree progress.
There have been modest increases over the years in underrepresented and women students, but it is critical we collaboratively work to accelerate the progress. Starting this Giving Tuesday we can make substantial strides with your gift.
A gift to Physics at Berkeley would support our diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging efforts, including, but not limited to:
Expanded undergraduate research opportunities and increase paid positions, through work-study and stipends, for underrepresented students.
A virtual fall open house for prospective undergraduate students and an expansion of our graduate student orientations to provide information about equity and inclusion opportunities.
Professional development activities and mentoring events, including an annual undergraduate poster session, graduate student mentorships, and more.
Monthly colloquia demystifying the career paths of physicists and featuring alumni to discuss alternative career paths.
Students travel grants to present at conferences, expanding their reach and exposure, while also raising the profile of the department.
