iBiological Sciences Fund

The Division of Biological Sciences at UC Berkeley is at the forefront of a critical moment in the life sciences. Our climate of rigorous and creative cross-disciplinary exchange sets the stage for critical advances, groundbreaking discovery, and opportunity for our students and faculty to thrive in their chosen fields. Our division attracts exceptional scholars and is known for producing leaders in industry and academia. However, like many universities across the country, Berkeley has struggled to make its programs more attractive to top talent from diverse backgrounds. Recruitment alone won’t solve the problem -- our division understands the urgent need to cultivate an environment in which all students are set up to succeed and top talent is encouraged to remain in academia.

The iBiological Sciences (or “Inclusive” Biological Sciences) Fund, is used to support diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging efforts across our division. Your gift to iBiological Sciences will support ongoing and future initiatives in these areas, such as:

  • “Inclusive MCB” and “Inclusive IB,” student-run departmental initiatives to advocate for underrepresented first year graduate students.

  • Seminar series within our division, fostering open conversations around student pressures -- both personal (finances, family, and peers) and institutional (implicit bias, stereotype threat, etc.)

  • Pairing students with faculty mentors, creating a greater sense of belonging and understanding among our students and faculty.

  • Support for faculty to implement DEIB projects in the classroom and labs.
