Your gift supports events and engagement activities with a particular focus on Modern Greek literature, language, history, and culture, as presented by the Modern Greek and Hellenic Studies Program at UC Berkeley. Your support will directly sponsor these events by helping to cover expenses related to programming, speakers, and visiting scholars.
Support of this fund augments and enhances the Nikos Kazantzakis Visiting Scholar Program, which was endowed in 2022 through a generous gift from the Modern Greek Studies Foundation. The program is overseen by Professor Christine Philliou, director of the Modern Greek and Hellenic Studies Program at Berkeley. It supports visiting scholars in the field of Modern Greek Studies, with an emphasis on modern Greek language, literature, film, history, and culture. Scholars present an annual Nikos Kazantzakis Lecture and may conduct seminars, engage in research, and perform related academic activities during their residencies at Berkeley. The endowed visiting scholar program is proudly named after Nikos Kazantzakis, a giant of modern Greek literature and thought.
