Your support helps to maintain the collections for use by our students, faculty, and the greater community, preserving both paper and film-based collections throughout all our libraries.
Each day our conservators work through the puzzle presented to them by every item that crosses their desks — all of the books, photographs, and documents worn out by time and use. Each repair begins with an investigation into an object’s story, in the past and yet to come. The UC Berkeley Library's preservation program is an essential part of this whole system which allows our students, faculty, and the community to do their research with our top-level collections.
Gifts to the Preservation Department allow for the focus to be on keeping our collection circulating and pristine for future users. Support to this fund has allowed various needs to be met from purchasing equipment and supplies to adding staffing who work on the materials every day.
