Your gift enables the Institute for the Study of Societal Issues (ISSI) to:
- Train the next generation of social change scholars in applied research methods while providing them the support to change the academy… and the world!
- Support innovative, interdisciplinary research on social stratification and inequality — in the United States and around the world — as well as on social and political movements that disrupt such patterns, and share this research through free events for diverse audiences.
- Amplify the voices of those historically marginalized, including African American, Native American, Asian American, and Latinx communities, and illuminate vital contemporary issues including right-wing movements, structural determinants of health, gender equity, and more.
Since 1976, the Institute has created a place of belonging for students and faculty from underrepresented groups and those doing cutting-edge social justice research. Over 250 of our alumni have completed their doctorates and gone on to distinguished careers. Most have become professors, thus helping to create a faculty that reflects the diversity of our nation and is responsive to the needs of our communities. With your support, we can continue to nurture new generations of emerging scholars and welcome them to the ranks of our alumni.
