The Institute of Governmental Studies (IGS) stands at the forefront of research, teaching, and service in California and American politics and policy.

The Institute of Governmental Studies is the leading public policy research institute on the West Coast, bridging civic engagement, nonpartisan expertise, and governance. Gifts to IGS help us to drive political reform for better government and nurture the next generation of civic and political leaders.

Our cutting-edge research, public events, and nationally recognized IGS Poll shape discussions about critical policy and political challenges facing California and the nation. Our student programming creates opportunities for students to train for careers in public service and to reach across political and cultural divides, serving as a counterforce to the increasing polarization that dominates American politics.
