Berkeley leads the world in earthquake engineering — your gift to PEER helps create new technologies for better buildings and infrastructure.
Earthquakes can pose fearsome risks to lives and economies around the world. Your gift supports the work of the Berkeley-based Pacific Earthquake Engineering Research Center (PEER), which brings together researchers from 20 universities, engineering firms, and government agencies to focus on performance-based earthquake engineering.
PEER develops, validates, and disseminates seismic design technologies that give engineers the tools and criteria to create safe, cost-effective, and resilient structures. Multidisciplinary research incorporates geotechnical and structural engineering, geology, seismology, expertise in lifeline systems, transportation, information technology, risk management, and public policy — all aimed at reducing risk, saving lives, and keeping communities up and running after a major earthquake.
