For more than a century, the Department of Geography at UC Berkeley has been a leading center of scholarship about Earth’s landscapes and human relationships to the environment.
UC Berkeley geographers study the natural and human processes that shape the face of the Earth. The Department of Geography's scholars use their expertise to illuminate major abiding problems of the modern world, from global warming and melting glaciers to resource scarcity and racial inequality. Your support allows the department to meet core needs and to facilitate research and teaching.
This year, your gifts will be put to immediate use to support the Cartography and Geospatial Education (CAGE) Lab, where we teach our students not only how to use geospatial tools but also how to ask deep questions about this technology. For the last thirty years, the CAGE Lab has been where our students take geospatial courses and produce projects using remote sensing, critical cartography, spatial data, and augmented reality led by our geography faculty. The CAGE Lab allows our students to make more reflective representations of the complex relationships between people and their environments. Because of the CAGE Lab, our students are prepared to become more ethical, critical, and thus more impactful citizens of the world.
