Your gift to the Jacobs Institute arms new generations of innovators with hands-on experience in design, fabrication, and creative thinking.
Many of today’s most intriguing challenges are met at the intersection of design and technology. The Jacobs Institute for Design Innovation is Berkeley’s hub for hands-on, team-based learning, empowering students to experiment, push boundaries, and challenge convention to fuel new ideas. Each semester some 1,500 engineers, artists, and students from any discipline engage in the institute’s courses, design studios, and programs.
With your support, we develop new courses, give students lower-cost access to fabrication equipment; support mentorship by expert staff; and grow the collection of popular tools for 3D printing, woodworking, welding, sewing, water-jet cutting, and more. “At Jacobs,” said one student, “the maker-space becomes a mentoring space.”
