ASL at Berkeley Community Fundraiser

Hey y'all! We are ASL at Berkeley. We were established just this fall semester, due to there not being an ASL community existing at Cal. In that time, we've already accumulated about 50 members, ranging from no ASL experience to ASL as a first language, and including Deaf individuals and children of Deaf adults (CODAs).

Since starting, we have held biweekly meetings, appointed 12 officers, hosted a speaker, held a game night, cohosted an event with the linguistics club and published informative slides on our Instagram account for Deaf awareness week, all in the last few months. However, we have much larger plans for our organization. We want to be able to put on collaborative events with Deaf student organizations on campus, invite more speakers, and even take a field trip to the California School For the Deaf in Fremont. Unfortunately, this all requires money, and due to how new our organization is, we were unable to apply for ASUC funding.

We are hoping to use the money raised here for larger scale and more inclusive events, to be able to compensate our guest speakers, and to hopefully take our group to an immersive experience at CSDF. Every donation counts, since we currently have a $0 operating budget, and with your help we can continue to develop this uniquely welcoming and inclusive space at Cal.
