Berkeley Wertheim: A Vision for a Better Future
Together we can ensure diversity in the optometric profession.

The Herbert Wertheim School of Optometry and Vision Science is not only a leader in optometric education; it is known for offering people the opportunity to develop their full potential and make a positive impact on the world.

Our commitment to inclusion and belonging is core to our mission and solidifies our distinctive identity as a place of excellence and innovation. However, we need your support to make diversity a source of our strength and our defining characteristic.

Members of our community have already stepped up to create two funds that will specifically help us address the school's DEIB initiatives; The Marvin R. Poston Opportunity Fund and The Dr. Harry Springer Family Fund for Promoting Diversity. Now we are turning to you, our community of supporters, to help us grow our potential impact by supporting these important initiatives.

             Dr. Marvin R. Poston, 1914-2002

The Dr. Marvin R. Poston Opportunity Fund, which was established by Dr. Michael Harris, supports recruitment and outreach efforts to advance an inclusive graduate community and enhance the cultural, academic, and professional experience of historically underrepresented students at the Herbert Wertheim School of Optometry and Vision Science.

The Dr. Harry Springer Family Fund for Promoting Diversity was created by the family members of the late Dr. Harry Springer, who believed deeply in the power of access to high quality education. Investing in this fund directly supports fostering an environment of learning, belonging, and self-exploration where all students can thrive.

Support our Vision for a Better Future

As alumni and friends of the school, we all are accountable for creating a better world.  The Herbert Wertheim School of Optometry and Vision Science takes this responsibility seriously. Through educational programs, research, and cross-cultural dialogue, we work to build a strong and diverse community with an emphasis on diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. You can help.

Make a gift to the Dr. Marvin R. Poston Opportunity Fund here, or to the Dr. Harry Springer Family Fund for Promoting Diversity here.

By supporting either of of these funds, you aid in the charge to create a community where everyone has the same opportunities to grow, learn, and thrive. Together we can ensure diversity in the optometric profession.
